Phenolic paper sheet class X is fabricated by applying heat and pressure to phenolic resin impregnated insulation paper. This type of industrial laminate is designed for insulating components for electric motor and electronic appliances requiring higher mechanical strength, as well as application for insulating oil.
Grade X, XX, and XXX Phenolic paper laminates are made up of a mixture of phenolic resin and paper and are the lowest costing material in the phenolic family. The phenolic paper provides good mechanical properties, with each “X” designating different levels of dielectric strengths and mechanical properties. Grade X has excellent mechanical properties but is not recommended for applications where electrical properties are important and humidity is high. Grade X meets MIL-I-24768/12 TYPE PBM.
The phenolic paper sheet class X is supposed to have smooth surface and be free from bubble, corrugate, crack and separation. Moreover, other defects should also be avoided such as scratch, impression, stain and uneven color. However, a small of amount of color mottle is permitted to the solid sheet.
Phenolic paper laminate – class X has lot of advantages:
- easy to machine
- lowest cost of phenolics
- phenolic paper laminate has good wear resistance
- low moisture absorption
- good mechanical strength
- phenolic paper laminate is strong and stiff
- high impact and compressive strength
Strengths
- Excellent dielectric properties
- Great machinability and easy to process
- Superior resistance to acid, chemical solvents and insulating oil
