Polyethylene is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic known for its exceptional durability and chemical resistance. However, its thermal strength falls short in comparison to some other plastics, making it unsuitable for use at elevated temperatures.
One key differentiator among various polyethylenes is their molar mass, which significantly impacts their physical properties. This means that while all polyethylenes share standard characteristics, some possess unique attributes.
Thanks to its higher molar mass, our High Temperature Resistant PE-HMW (PE 500; molar mass approximately 500,000 g/mol) offers superior sliding properties and enhanced resistance to abrasion compared to PE-HD. This makes High Temperature Resistant HMW-PE an excellent choice for low-load components that do not experience significant abrasive wear, all while maintaining remarkable durability.
It’s important to note that most forms of PE are inherently flammable and continue to burn and release droplets after the ignition source is removed. However, their combustion gases primarily consist of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, water, and trace amounts of plastic carbon black and molecular constituents.
