PTFE Sheets & Rods (Mechanical Grade) – An Overview
PTFE Sheets & Rods, renowned for their astounding chemical resistance and low friction coefficient, serve as excellent materials for corrosion-resistant gaskets & seals. Many manufacturers produce their PTFE brands, offering alternatives to our various PTFE brands. Our offerings encompass mechanical grade PTFE, a reprocessed grade that may contain various brands. It’s important to note that Mechanical Grade PTFE may have lower mechanical properties and purity compared to Virgin Grade PTFE, and we do not provide any warranties or guarantees for its minimal properties.
If you seek material certifications and traceability, we recommend considering Virgin PTFE made from Dyneon or Daiken resins or Chemours® PTFE specialty grades, such as Chemours® 7A, Chemours® 7C, Chemours® 8A, or Chemours® 9B. These specialty grades are available as custom orders and are priced higher than Generic Virgin PTFE Shapes, with lead times applying.
Chemours® PTFE is a registered trademark of Chemours.
Features and Benefits of PTFE Sheets & Rods (Mechanical Grade)
Key Advantages of PTFE Sheets & Rods:
- Outstanding chemical resistance.
- Exceptionally low coefficient of friction.
- Operational up to 500° F with superior chemical resistance.
- Excellent insulating properties.
However, it’s worth noting some limitations:
- Very low compressive and tensile strength compared to Virgin PTFE.
- Mechanical PTFE is produced in a maximum thickness of 0.250″. For thicker sheets, consider using VIRGIN PTFE.
- Mechanical PTFE is not suitable for high-purity applications, as it is made from recycled PTFE resin. For high-purity applications, always opt for Virgin Grade PTFE Sheets and Rods.
